HABC Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

We are pleased to offer the HABC Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work as an accredited qualification.

Who is the qualification for?

The Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work is a qualification aimed at candidates already working or preparing to work in industry.

Persons gaining this qualification will know that First Aid is the responsibility of everyone involved in the working environment. Its topics are regarded by the Health & Safety Executive as being important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health in the workplace.

Recommendation of Prior Learning:

  • There are no pre-requisites for this qualification. It is advised that candidates have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent. Arrangements are in place for special needs.

What does the course cover?

The course will familiarise students with the roles and responsibilities of the Emergency First Aider, including assessing an incident, recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness, and assisting a casualty who is suffering from injury and illness. Students will learn and be assessed on their practical ability to deal with casualties who have stopped breathing, are unconscious, are bleeding and suffering from shock.

Guided learning hours for this qualification are 6 hours depending upon the mode of study and training needs of candidates.

  • Managing a Casualty with a Minor injury

Key Skills:

  • This qualification provides the opportunity for candidates to develop competence in key skills and produce evidence towards attaining key skills.
  • The qualification does not ensure key skills are met as this would depend upon candidates producing a portfolio of evidence and the mode of study adopted.

What does the assessment involve?

  • This is a single unit qualification
  • The assessment (ongoing assessment) is set and assessed ongoing by the trainer

Restrictions on Candidate Entry

  • Candidates must have undertaken a course of instruction approved by HABC and covering the syllabus prior to taking the examination. In addition, all candidates must be able to demonstrate their competence of key First Aid practices which is assessed ongoing by the instructor.

Examination Results and Certificates

  • Following the assessment, a list of results will be provided stating whether candidates have passed or failed.
  • Certificates for successful candidates will be dispatched within two weeks
